In September I took a trip back to my home state of NY, I grew up in the far north area of the state. The great pointer breeder had a home in Henderson NY on Lake Ontario, it is now a state park. I am a Vizsla guy but there is just something about those pointers. ;-) Here are a few pictures form our trip to the park. Let me add the Bob Wehle was also the sculptor of these bronze pointers.

Shooting clay targets with the wife and boys yesterday, when the Brodie decides to break out the AR-15. He asked for me to throw him a target … thinking this would be entertaining, I released one of the clay target. He shoots once at the target when it gets about 50 yards out and POOF, the target disintegrates in mid air. Not to be out done brother Aiden, decides it’s his turn. I throw him a target, one shot, target explodes in mid air. Sadly we didn’t catch either shot on video… but it was pretty amazing!!

I am tired. Traveller and I have been chasing ducks and pheasants for the last couple weeks. With every trip there always comes some sort of challenges or difficulties, such as zero wind most days or the almost 80 degrees temps. But just as most things in life, you have to take it as it comes and adapt. Can’t change the weather anyways, so might as well make the most of it.

I decided to rest Traveller more this year than I have in past years. One reason is because I’ve definitely been guilty of over hunting him in prior trips due to my excitement; insert EGO here. What I found is that while I get immense amounts of joy watching him carry/drag a Canada goose in a sidestep way back to me, or flush a rooster out of cover that there’s no way in hell I’d step into, I also thoroughly enjoyed watching other dogs in the field. Even more so, I loved watching their handler’s enjoyment when their dogs had success.

I may only see the majority of my cohorts on the trip once, maybe twice a year, but we are able to make a lifetime’s amount of memories in a few days. As Traveller and I make the all day drive back home, I’m looking forward to a celebratory 🥃, a nap in the recliner, and looking forward to the rest of hunting season.

This week's featured article on Gundog Central is from Danny Bardwell, 'Not all sinners go to hell'- A true tribute to a dear friend, with amazing artwork contributed by Kate Hall. You can read Danny's tribute here : https://gundogcentral.com/articles/5288/not-all-sinners-go-to-hell

About Danny : Danny Bardwell is a construction superintendent who builds large commercial buildings in the Baton Rouge / New Orleans area. For peace of mind and escape from the stress of building, Danny raises and trains pointers with his thirteen year old grandson, Lane.

Danny is a story teller at heart, and often when relaxing he is inspired by some little event or phrase. Lane appears in most of Danny's stories. His stories have appeared in local publication as well as national circulations such as Sporting Classics Magazine.

About Kate : Kate Hall is an outdoor artist who resides on an Angus cattle farm in Tennessee, where she began hunting at an early age. During her 13 years as a flight attendant, Kate visited 27 countries and all 50 states. She now spends her time traveling across the country in search of rising trout and upland birds with her husband and their English Setter. In his first two seasons they hunted on public lands in MT, KS, SC, AL, NC, KY and TN for quail, ruffed grouse, sharptail grouse, woodcock, pheasant, prairie chickens, and hungarian partridge. Upland hunting has enriched Kate's life and influences much of her colored pencil work.
