Trying to learn woodcock--anyone down south have any broad sweeping nuggets of advice they're willing to share? I'll be hunting in Texas but figure those along gulf coast states will have some overlapping input.

@jeffdavis well I'll share anything I'm able to uncover. I read about the Northwoods stuff, but the habitats are so different, it's been tough to translate into pineywoods cover
I wish I did. I'm in west Tennessee, we have some woodcock migrate over in East Tennessee and I've heard of people hunting them in Arkansas, but I've never seen or heard of anyone hunting them here. I've been trying to find out more myself.
I know everyone is dying to know just who won week #4 of my Gun Dog Chat Gun Dog book giveaway. Congratulations to Jason Elkins @jasonelkins on winning this copy of 'Building a Grouse Dog - From Puppy to Polished Performer' by Craig Doherty. I believe the copy that I'll be mailing is signed by the author, an added bonus. I really like the way this book is put together, although I haven't been able to read the whole thing yet.
In case you missed my previous post, I'm giving away a brand new Gun Dog related book each week until the end of the year. To be eligible to win one of these books, all you need to do is make a post on Gun Dog Chat. Each Sunday, from now until the new year, I'll randomly select a winner and a book from the post that were made during the week.
You might be wondering if I have any good books available, I don't, I have some great books! What books do I have? I have three Limited Edition hardback copies of Mouthful of Feathers (https://www.reidbryant.com) with an illustration by Frederick Stivers (https://frederickstivers.com). A signed copy of A Little Competition by Tom Word. I also have A Millionaire’s Dream by Bret Wonnacott, Building a Grouse Dog by Craig Doherty, Idaho Upland Days : Reflections on Bird Dogs, Banner Days and Other Roadside Revelations by Andrew M. Wayment and Wing and Shot : Gun Dog Training by Robert G. Wehle. I also have Bird Dogs and Field Trials by Jack Harper and Home of Champions by David Grubbs, these two books I'll be sending together, if you win one, you'll win the other.
None of these authors are affiliated with or endorse Gun Dog Chat. I personally purchased these books with the intent for this giveaway.

I ran across this shot from Montana sharptail opener this year. An awesome string of birddogs, one is not the same. ;-)

We had a blast with you♥️
And love the red dogs
I'd love to make it up to Montana to hunt Shirttail, but haven't been able to fit it into my schedule yet.
W have puppies! Winston (dad) is bred for the field but has not been titled. Remi (mom) is a NGSPA Derby Champion.
